Globicephala

The globicéphale without question is the most ignored truths dolphins (Delphinidae). Its Latin name, globicephala , which means " head globuleuse" comes from the important development of its frontal melon. It is commonly called " dolphin pilote" because one frequently sees it in the wake or with the stem of the English " ships (; finned pile whale").

List species

The kind Globicephala is divided into two species:
  • the Globicephala macrorhynchus (Gray, 1846) usually called tropical Globicéphale, Globicéphale of the Pacific or Globicéphale de Siebold

  • the Globicephala mixed (Traill, 1809) usually called black Globicéphale. This species is subdivided in two subspecies:
* the Globicephala mixed mixed in the North Atlantic;
* the Globicephala mixed edwardi with the south, all around the Antarctic Ocean.
