Gletsch is a locality located at 1757 meters in the canton of the Valais in Suisse and which belongs to the commune of Oberwald in the District of Conches. The name of the village comes from the proximity of the Glacier of the Rhone ( Gletscher which means “German glacier”). It is about the first locality which borders the the Rhone. Gletsch is the starting point on Valaisan territory for the roads of the Col of Furka and the Col of Grimsel. Gletsch is the terminus of the summit Ligne of Furka which connects the Valaisan locality to Realp in the canton of Uri.
