Glenn Raymond Tipton (born the October 25th 1948 with Blackheat in England) is one of the Guitaristes (and occasionally Claviériste) of the group of Heavy Metal British Judas Priest. It was before in the group The Flying Hat Band.
Tipton is recognized for its complex solos, sometimes influenced by the Classical music, and for its play in duet with its partner of Judas Priest, K.K. Downing.
Although Glenn did not practice the guitar before 21 years, his/her mother taught the piano to him as of her more young age. He plays besides of the piano on the album Sad Wings off Destiny of Judas Priest (more particularly on Epitaph , piece without parts played guitar).
Tipton is, with Rob Halford and K.K. Downing, one of the principal type-setters of the group.
In 1997, Tipton left its first album solo, entitled Baptizm off Fire , comprising a list of prestigious guests: John Entwistle, Billy Sheehan, Cozy Powell, Gift Airey inter alia.
Tipton used many guitars with the passing of years.
Among those, one can quote a Fender Stratocaster which it used until 1978.
Until 1979, it uses a Gibson the Paul Custom as well as Fender Stratocaster modifiée.
During the Screaming For Revenge Tower , he also plays on a Gibson SG which he probably painted itself in noir.
About 1984, it passes to a Hamer Phantom WP Model, whose signed model was sold of 1984 to 1986. It always uses this model today.
Tipton uses quasi-exclusivement amplifiers Marshall.
One can for example quote Regular Vintage 50 or 100 Watts until 1982.
It will use then the JCM 800 during many years, just as its partner K.K. Downing.
Currently, it uses a unit including/understanding several pre-amplifiers and two Marshall 9100.
It was classified 19th by the magazine of rock'n'roll Hit Parader in the list of the 100 larger Metal guitarists.
Sun Kil Moon composed a piece entitled Glenn Tipton on the album Ghosts off the Great Highway .
