Glenn Branca

Glenn Branca is a Compositeur and a Guitariste American contemporary of Avant-garde, born the October 6th 1948 with Harrisburg (Pennsylvania).

Biography

Branca studied the Art performance in Boston before founding its first groups Theoretical Girls and Static , then finally the Glenn Branca Ensemble which included/understood four guitars then, a low guitar and percussions. The composition of this group evolved/moved with the passing of years with the addition of new instruments (keyboards, percussions) and the increase in the number of guitars up to eight. During this period, future musicians of Swans, Helmet and Sonic Youth (Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo) take part in the unit. Glenn Branca continued work with its Ensemble until today, but also composed for Symphony orchestra, and the June 13rd 2001, it presented to the World Trade Center (New York City) a composition percent guitars: Hallucination City - Symphony for 100 Guitars .

The music of Branca is difficult to classify: sometimes qualified industrial , of cacophonous, it uses in an important way the Micro-intervalle S. Branca generally uses guitars which it modified.
