Glenmor

Glenmor , of its true name Emile Scanff , is a committed Auteur-compositeur-interprète Breton (June 25th 1931 with Maël-Carhaix - June 18th 1996).

Biography

For the scene, it gives up its patronym " Emile Scanff" (Rear Milig Skañv, into Breton) for the name which will make it popular: Glenmor (“ground-sea” into Breton).

He is laid off in Philosophie. He was dependant of friendship with Jacques Brel, at their beginnings, which composed in his memory the song the Dying man : “Good-bye the Emile I liked you…”

Career

Its career starts in 1958. In 1959, it gives its first concert to Paris, in front of some rare unconditional and produced, on account of author, its first disc " Glenmor in Mutualité".

It will sign at several recording companies and will connect album on album.

Militancy

Committed artist of the Breton Nationalism, Glenmor composes the Kan Basle read poblek Breizh (famous Kan Basle year ARB) (" Song of walk of the Breton revolutionary Armed "). In June 1979, it observes an hunger strike to protest against the detention of a Breton militant stopped following an attack against the Château of Versailles.

With his friends Alain Guel and Xavier Grall it is recipient of the foundation of the Editions KELENN where it publishes in 1968 the book of the songs at the same time as Xavier Grall published there Barde imagined then the festival of the night (1972) work in which Glenmor is the main character, under the features of the bards " Arzel". With the beginning of the year 1970 it founds with same the Xavier Grall and Alain Guel the Breton nationalist newspaper the Breton Nation.

In 1978, it is indicated Breton year by armor magazine.

In 1990, it decides to put an end to its artistic career to devote itself to the writing.

It is decorated with the Ordre of Hermine in 1990.

The disease will carry it later six years, the June 18th 1996. Several thousands of people greet it at the time of its funerals with Maël-Carhaix.
