Glenfaba is a Sheading located on the west coast of the island of Man.
Etymology
The name of Glenfaba is old and one finds the form
Terra de Glenfaba in a bubble of the Pape
Gregoire IX, in
1231. If the term
glen (“valley”) does not pose a problem and finds itself in many toponyms of the island (Glen Mooar, Glen Helen,…), the form
faba is more prone to discussion. It could be a question of a génitive form
of the name
feb , which would have given
yn Eb , first form of the name indicating the river Neb and which runs precisely in the sheading of Glenfaba. Glenfaba wants probably to thus say “the valley of Neb”.
Parishes
The sheading of Glenfaba includes/understands three administrative parishes:
- the town of Peel, the oldest historical capital of the island, created in the old insular parish of German;
- the administrative parish of German which includes/understands the remainder of the old insular parish of German.
- the administrative and insular parish of Patrick, in the south of the town of Peel.
