Glasgow Academicals RFC is a club of Scottish Rugby located at Glasgow.
History
Glasgow Academy adopted Rugby since 1851, but the club charged it to represent, Glasgow Academicals, was founded only in 1866, which in fact all the same one of oldest of the the United Kingdom. It was consequently one of the most prestigious clubs of Scotland. Since 1867, he faces off each year West Scotland RFC in what was regarded as the oldest regular confrontation between two teams of Rugby. In 1870, Accies go in England and face Manchester and Liverpool. Following this round, four clubs Scot, whose Glasgow Accies, requested better English club of the time, Blackheath, a confrontation between the best players of each nation. And thus the first international match of the history - to 20 against 20! - had place in 1871 between the Scotland and the England with Edinburgh. Glasgow had five players on the ground. Five others will take part in the first international match with XV against the Ireland in 1877.In 1873, Glasgow Academicals takes part in the foundation of the Scottish federation, Scottish… Football Union (become later the Scottish Rugby Union). In 1878, it is the first Scottish club to play London, where it beats Blackheath. Many its players will belong to the team of Glasgow which faced each year the selection of Edinburgh.
In 1997, it amalgamates with Glasgow High Kelvinside RFC (founded in 1884) to create the Glasgow Hawks . It starts again under its old name in 2001 and currently evolves/moves in the Fifth Division.

Famous players
The club provided 82 players to the Équipe of Scotland. In 1926, four of them take part in the first Scottish victory over England with Twickenham. Three of them played for the British Lions.
