Glénac

Glénac is a common French, located in the department of the Morbihan and the area Brittany.

The name Breton of the commune is Glenneg .

Geography

In the moors of Morbihan, crossed by the Oust, skirted by the Aff and strewn with wood.

The commune of Glénac is surrounded of the communes of Gacilly, Cournon, Bath-on-Oust in Ille-et-Vilaine, Saint-Vincent-on-Oust, Peillac and Fougerêts.

History

At the 16th century, Glénac belonged to the parish of Cournon - Glénac. With the revolution, the commune of Glénac is created and Glénac is set up in parish in 1802.

In May 1570, property of the calvinist Paul Coligny de Rieux, it accommodates the king Charles IX and the queen Catherine de Médicis, her mother.

The Marshal of Rieux, tutor of the Duchess Anne, made build in 1625 this castle at the edge of the forest on the ruins of an old appointment of hunting built by the family of Rieux at the 15th century.

In 1697, No5el Danycan of the spine, rich ship-owner of Saint-Malo, acquires the castle of the New Forest and the field of Rieux for 276.000 books (following a garnishee order of the May 3rd and 4th 1686 on the properties of Mr. Henri of Guénégaud, Marquis de Plancy). On Tuesday, June 17, 1704, Marie-Anne Guyonne Danycan of the spine Marie with Charles Huchet of Bédoyère, prosecutor to the Parliament of Brittany to Rennes and receives the castle of the new Forest in dowry.

Towards 1770, the castle is the property of François de Rieux married to Marie-Anne de Saux-Tavannes. In 1786, François de Rieux is Master of camp and ordering the regiment of cavalry known as of Berry. Promoted sergeant-general, it takes takes part in several battles and, with the one of it, he loses a leg.

During this time, the seigniory of Rieux is managed and even rented since December 24th, 1773 by its intendant Maître Julien Joyaut, tax prosecutor of Redon, placed in Paris in the Hotel of Vienna, street of the girls Saint Thomas, as an Eustace Saint. With the help of 18.000 books per annum, with hunting rights, it leases for 9 years all the fruits and incomes. At the end of 9 years, it renews its lease auxmêmes conditions. The castle was ruined during the revolutionary disorders. The February 7th 1790, were flarings the chartier and the titles of the Seigniory of Rieux with the New Forest in Glénac. The sior Joyaut had to try to save these papers because, the October 27th 1790 the Count de Rieux written with joyaut manager “My dear Joyaut - as for papers of family, I hope that I will find some enough to prove who I am. Good-bye! I am sensitive to all the care which you took. To mark you my recognition, I have only my attachment to offer to you. Perhaps that will change.”

Emigrant as of 1789 in England. After his death, his/her cousin the duke of Sauls-Tavannes asserted the July 29th 1816 - the New Forest, the site of the old castle of Rieux, the new passage into rieux and that of Bougro as a Saint Vincent, the goods which, though sold, return for forfeiture and fault of payment, like the audience, the markets, the fairground and, moreover, the sums which had by the purchasers. On this request, the prefect named Mr. Grébauval, notary in Paris, curator of the New Forest.

In 1819, the site of the castle of Rieux, one hectare fifty ares 28 centiares, was sold sixty francs. The property of the New Forest was divided into 2 batches and was bought by Misters Antoine Bellamy and Elie Dumoustier, traders with Redon.

The castle was rebuilt in 1826 per the Count Auguste de Foucher Careil, owner since 1825, was married in Caroline Surcouf girl of famous the Corsaire inhabitant of Saint Malo, This castle has 42 Mr. of frontage on 21 of Prof; located at the edge of the forest of which it bears the name, and in an admirable position; it dominates all the country, to 2 or 3 Myriamètre S with the round.
