Giuseppe Torelli , (Vérone, April 22nd 1658 - Bologna, February 8th 1709) was a Violoniste and a Compositeur baroque Italy N of the 17th century. He was the brother of the painter Felice Torelli.

Biography

Giuseppe Torelli was one of the large violonists and Italian type-setters of his time.

It received its musical formation in the environment of the famous orchestra of the cathedral San Petrino. He studied the composition at Giacomo Antonio $petri in Bologna; after a difficult examination, he became member of the privileged musical circle of “Accademia Filarmonica”. Since 1686, he was altist in the orchestra of Bologna. In 1698, he became choirmaster at the court of the count d' Ansbach. In 1699 and 1700 it remained with Vienna (Austria) and as from 1701 it went back to Bologna where it finishes its life.

Its musical influence

Its work had a great influence on the development of the Concerto grosso.

He invented also the form with three movements (quickly, slow, quickly) in the instrumental concert. Its known work is composed of 8 opus is 84 parts. He invented in 1700 the concerto for solo violin and orchestra, innovation revolutionary at the time compared to the concerto grosso where a group of soloists dialogued with the orchestra. He wrote especially sonatas, concertos grossos and concertos.
