Giuseppe Peeled

Giuseppe Pella (Valdengo, Biella, April 18th 1902 - Rome May 31st 1981) was an Italian politician of the 20th century.

Biography

Economist and professor with the University of Rome and that of Turin, after the Release of the Italy of North in April 1945, Giuseppe Pella adheres to the Christian Democrat (cd.). Elected official appointed with the Constituent Assembly in 1946, it is appointed of 1948 with 1968 and senator of the 1968 with 1976.

Expression of the right wing of the Christian Democrat, it is also close to the liberal economist Luigi Einaudi. Under-secretary with Finances, Minister for Finance, Treasury and Budget in the governments of Alcide De Gasperi which follow one another of 1946 1953, the August 17th 1953 it is named President of the council by the President of the Republic Luigi Einaudi. But the nationalist attitude of Peeled finishes to gain to him sympathies of the party monarchist and the Italian Social movement (MSI), the neofascist party. Therefore the Christian Democrat will decide to take its distances from the Pella government, with the sentence assassinates of the former minister for the interior Mario Scelba “governo amico” ( friendly government ).

He resigns the January 12th 1954. He is vice-president of the council and Foreign Minister in the government of Adone Zoli (May 19th 1957 - January 1st 1958), Foreign Minister in the 2nd government of Antonio Segni (February 15th 1959 - March 23rd 1960) and of the budget in the 3rd government of Amintore Fanfani (July 26th 1960 - February 21st 1962).

Opposed to the center-left, starting from the 1962 it decides moreover take part in the government. It returns to the businesses only in 1972, as a Minister for Finance in transitory the 1st government of Giulio Andreotti (February 17th 1972 - June 26th 1972).
