Giuseppe Baretti

Giuseppe Baretti (born the April 24th 1719 with Turin, Piedmont, Italy - died the May 5th 1789 with London) was a Italian 18th century, scholar, Dramaturge, Critique arts person, Lexicographe and translator, known writer in particular for his translations of the parts of Corneille in the language of Dante.

Biography

Native of the Piedmont, Giuseppe Baretti passed part of his childhood to Parma and Milan. In 1751, it settled in England, where it made knowledge and became the friend of Samuel Johnson.

In 1760, it undertook a long voyage to the Portugal, in Spain and France, before returning in Italy. It settled initially with Milan, then left the capital lombarde for Venice (1763 - 1765). In 1766, following a polemic caused by its writings on the Venetian company, it had to set out again for England, where it settled definitively. He died in London in 1789.
