Giuliano da Maiano

Giuliano da Maiano (Maiano hamlet of Fiesole 1432 - Naples 1490) is an architect and a sculptor poured in the Marqueterie ( intarsia ) of the Italian Rebirth. It is the groin of Benedetto da Maiano and Giovanni da Maiano.

Biography

His/her father is stone mason with Maiano and intends it for the body of notaries but its talents for the drawing directs it towards painting and marquetry, and directing a workshop of work of wood, it works with his/her Benedetto brother for planks and low-reliefs with the new sacristy of the dome of Florence, of 1463 to 1465, and work with the Palazzo Vecchio in particular the coffered ceiling and the white marble door frame of the Sala dei Dugento (1472-1477) and in the Sala del Giglio , it also works with the Palazzo Pazzi and the Palazzo Antinori .

In 1461, it finishes the lantern of the cupola of the cathedral of Florence, according to the drawing of Filippo Brunelleschi.

It contributes with Donatello and Verrocchio for the construction of a vault in the cathedral of Orvieto

In 1480, it finishes the gate vault of the Madonna dell' Olivo of the cathedral of Prato, with his two brothers then sculptures and other work of architecture to San Gimignano, Arezzo, Rome, Loreto, His, Faenza and Recanati.

It passes part of its time also to Naples near the Aragon, and carries out the Porte Capuana and the Porte Nolana , the Cappella Tolosa in the Church Sant' Anna of Lombards Monteoliveto , the Palazzo Como and probably the Triumphal arch to the Castel Nuovo .

It dies there, honoured by Alphonse II with Naples at the time of its funerals.
