Gitte

The Gitte or Gite is a French Rivière , which runs in Lorraine, in the department of the the Vosges. It is an affluent of the Madon out of Right Bank, therefore a tributary of a tributary of the the Rhine by Madon, then by the the Moselle.

Geography

It is born in the hills from the Vôge, to the south of the department and moves overall towards the North-West. It is thrown in the Madon on the level of the locality of Velotte.

Hydrology

Gitte is a river small, but relatively abundant, like all the rivers resulting from the southern part of the area Lorraine. Its flow was observed over one 28 years period (1980-2007), with Velotte-and-Tatignécourt, locality of the department of the the Vosges located at the level of its confluence with the Madon. The catchment area of the river is of 114 km ².

The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Velotte-and-Tatignécourt is of 1,47 m ³ a second.

Gitte present of the seasonal fluctuations of flow important, like very often in Lorraine, with risings of winter carrying the average monthly flow on a going level from 2,22 to 2,68 m ³ a second, from December to March included (with an in December maximum and January), and low waters of summer, at the end of June at September included, with a fall of the monthly medium flow until the minimum flow of 0,333 m ³ in August. But there exist oscillations of flow much more marked over moreover short periods.

With the low water level, the VCN3 can fall until 0,14 m ³, in the event of period quinquennial dry, which is relatively low, but normal on the Lorraine plate. For recall, the VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.

As for the risings, they can be very important. Thus the recorded maximum instantaneous flow was of 46,5 m ³ a second on October 3rd, 2006, while the value maximum day laborer was of 29,4 m ³ a second on May 25th, 1983. These figures do not appear astronomical at first sight, but it should not be forgotten that it is about a very small basin of 114 km ², and that proportionally they are more important than those of the Meurthe for example. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 32 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 36 m ³ and the QIX 50 of 41 m ³. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 are worth as for them respectively 22 and 28 m ³ (see note). From where it arises that the risings of October 2006 were more than cinquantennales, and thus almost exceptional.

Gitte is a small abundant river, supplied with such abundant precipitations they, in the area of the solid mass of Vôge in particular. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is of 409 millimetres annually, which is rather high, higher than the average overall of France, but a little lower than the average of the totality of the French basin of the the Moselle (445 millimetres with Hauconcourt, downstream from Metz). The specific Flow of the river (or Qsp) reached the figure of 12,9 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
