Gisele Lalonde

Gisele Lalonde (June 28th 1933 -) was the mairess of the town of Vanier of 1985 with 1991. She is recognized like a défenseure of the rights of the French-speaking people in Ontario in the file of the hospital Montfort.

She was born Gisele Deschamps in Eastview, later Vanier, in 1933. She received a certificate in teaching with the Université of Ottawa and she taught in the area of Ottawa of 1951 with 1973. At that time, Lalonde was also member of the school commission of French language during thirteen years. Acting as adviser on French education, Gisele Lalonde gave to her opinion to the Prime Minister for Ontario on the needs for the French community.

She is elected mairess of Basket maker in 1985. In 1988, it founds and becomes the first president of the French Association of the municipalities of Ontario.

Lalonde was with the head of S.O.S Montfort , a campaign which prevented the closing of the only hospital of French language in Ontario.

It received the Ordre of Canada in 2004.
