Giresun

The town of Giresun (in the past Kérassoune ) is located at the North-East of the Turkey on the edges of the Black Sea. It is the Préfecture of the Province of the same name. It has a folk rich person culture thanks to the contributions of the various populations present in this city. The name of the east city at the origin of the " term; Cherry " and its Noisette has a world reputation.

History

The current city developed starting from the ancient Pharnakéia founded in first half of the IIe front century J. - C. by Pharnace Ier, king of the Bridge, thanks to the Synœcisme of Cotyora and Choerades, two small establishments of Sinope.

It will be known with the Roman epoch under the name of Cerasus (form Latin E) or Kerasous (Greek form ) which points out the episode of the Roman general Lucius Licinius Lucullus, then in war against Mithridate VI, which discovers towards 70 av. J. - C. in this city a new variety of Cerisier (the Prunus cerasus , the morello cherry) and which introduces it shortly after with Rome. In Turkish one indicates cherry by the word " kiraz " who comes from the ancient name of the city " kerasous" . In French cherry , in English cherry , Spanish cereza also come from this ancient name of the city.

Starting from 66 av. J-C until in 1204 the city was under Byzantine domination . At the time of the bag of Constantinople by the Fourth crusade in 1204, the imperial family carried out by Alexis Comnène fled the city to go to found with Trébizonde, in the North-East of the current Turkey, to 175 km in the east of Giresun, the Greek Empire of Trébizonde. A dynasty of princes reigned in the town of Trébizonde and these alentoures until in 1461, date on which Mehmed II, the Othoman sultan, conquered this last Byzantine bastion and integrated it, like Giresun, in the Othoman territories. Giresun was the second big city of the Greek Empire of Trébizonde.
