Giovanni di Lapo Ghini
Giovanni di Lapo Ghini is an architect of the school florentine of the Trecento and the father of Simone de Giovanni Ghini which was a famous scultptor.
Biography
Formed in Florence, it is one of the architects who contributed to the completion of the body basilical of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence.December 20th, 1344, it is called by Francesco Talenti in the role of architect and Master-mason.
In 1366, it joined Talenti again. During their supervision it is decided to add a fourth span to the cathedral and to increase all the diagram of the apses on which will have to rise the cupola, the project approved definitively is implemented in 1367. The cathedral then becomes the largest church ever built.
In Florence still, it takes part in the enlarging of the Palazzo Vecchio, according to the desire of magnificence of the duke of Athens Gautier VI of Brienne, and probably taken on the other architectural great project under development of the last series of Fortifications of Florence. With Prato, always with Francesco Talenti, it supplements the transept of the cathedral.
