Giovanni Maria Bononcini (born the September 23rd 1642 close to Modena, dead the November 18th 1678 in Modena) was a Compositeur and Violoniste Italy N.

Life

Bononcini, probably formed by Marco Uccellini, was choirmaster of the churches San Giovanni in Assembles and San Petronio to Bologna and member of prestigious the Academia Filarmonica . As from 1671, he was initially violonist of court of the duchess Laura d' Este in Modena and, as from 1674 to his death, choirmaster to the cathedral. Its three sons, whose Giovanni Bononcini was most famous, like Antonio Maria Bononcini and Giovanni Maria Angelo Bononcini (1678-1753) were also musicians.

Works

Bononcini composed of vocal and instrumental works; it made a clear distinction between the Sonata da chiesa and the Sonata da camera. Its sonatas published (op.4, op.9, op.7 and op.12) gather several dances. Its 24 sonatas in trio are the precursors of the sonatas of Arcangelo Corelli. Several sonatas are noted in scordature. In its vocal work the voice of the soloist dominates, while the instrumental accompaniment remains with the background.
