Giovanni Evangelisti

Giovanni Evangelisti , (born the September 11th 1961, with Rimini) is a former athlete Italy N, specialist in the Long jump.

It held during more than twenty years the record of Italy in 8,43 m, carried out with San Giovanni Valdarno in 1987 (beaten by Andrew Howe with Osaka 2007 in 8,47 m).

It gained bronze with the Olympic Games of Los Angeles, in 1984, bronze with the Championnats of Europe of athletics 1986 with Stuttgart, like three other bronze medals in room. He was the first Italian to exceed the 8 meters.

Well in spite of him, it was in the center of the “Evangelisti business”: at the time of the last jump finally of the Championships of the world of athletics 1987, with Rome, it gains bronze initially, by improving its preceding jump. But this last jump, as proved it then the televised images, had been measured in excess, undoubtedly voluntarily, in order to make him obtain a better result. The president of IAAF was then Primo Nebiolo, an old Italian long jumper. No load was retained against him, not having been informed of this handling, but after to have given up itself there, the medal was withdrawn to him thereafter and allotted to true 3rd by IAAF.
