Giovanni Battista Grassi
Giovanni Battista Grassi is a Italian zoologist , born the May 27th 1854 with Rovellasca and dead the May 4th 1925 with Rome.
It obtains its doctorate of Médecine in 1878 with the Université of Pavia. He studies the Zoologie with Heidelberg and Würburg. He teaches the zoology with Catane starting from 1883. Starting from 1895, it occupies a pulpit of Comparative anatomy with Rome.
He is in particular the author of I Chetognati (1883), I Progenitori degli insetti E dei miriapodi, Japyx E Campodia (1886), Studi di uno zoologo sulla malaria (1900) and Flagellati viventi nei termiti (1917). He receives the Médaille Darwin in 1896 allotted by the Royal Society.
He studies the biology of the intestinal worms, of the Termite S and of the Protozoaire S. It is interested particularly in the migration of the Anguille S. Its contribution most important is undoubtedly its demonstration that the Moustique transports, via its disgestif system, the plasmodium responsible for the Paludisme. With Amico Bignami (1862-1919), it shows in 1899 that the vital cycle of the plasmodium needs the mosquito like stage necessary.
Italy emitted a stamp posts in its memory on November 19th, 1955.
