Giovanni Balducci known as he Cosci (Florence, 1560 - Naples, after 1631), is an Italian painter of the school florentine.
Biography
It is formed with the workshop of Giovanni Battista Naldini, under the influence of Giorgio Vasari and of the Maniérisme late Florentin. Between 1575 and 1579, he collaborates with Federico Zuccaro in the frescos of the Giudizio Universale of the cupola of Brunelleschi in Santa Maria del Fiore of Florence. He is registered with the delle Accademia Arti del Disegno in 1578.From 1577 to 1580, he works with Naldini on the frescos of the Altoviti vault of the church and abbey of the Trinity-of-Mounts in Rome.
Turned over then to Florence, it belongs to the group of artists gathered around Alessandro Al and with which it decorates the ceilings with the corridors of the last stage of the Uffizi.
In 1589, for the weddings of Ferdinand I {{er}} of Médicis and Christine of Lorraine, almost all the workshops of painters of the city are mobilized, for the creation of apparatuses of scenography and it takes part in particular in decorations of Santa Maria del Fiore, where remains Cène which it painted. The same year it paints the mystical marriage of Saint Catherine to the church Sant' Agostino of San Gimignano.
From 1588 to 1590, it paints, which is regarded as its masterpiece, for the cardinal Alexandre de Médicis, a cycle of the life of Christ to the oratory of Pretoni, also known under the name of the oratory of Jesus pilgrim ( Oratorio di Gesù Pellegrino ), Via San Gallo in Florence.
In its painting cohabit the marks of the classicism of Quattrocento, in returned faces, and the characters of devotion of crowned painting florentine of the moment, dominated by the influence of Santi di Tito.
Between 1590 and 1591, again with Naldini, he works with the decoration of the dome of Volterra, where he paints he Miracolo dei pani E dei pesci (the miracle of the breads and fish) in the Serguidi vault. The Natività in Volterra is gone back to 1592. At the beginning of the new century, it leaves to Naples, where also it is also active. it dies there in 1631.
