Giorgio Bassani

Giorgio Bassani , Novelist and Poet Italy N born the March 4th 1916 with Bologna, dead the April 13rd 2000 with Rome.

It is on March 4th, 1916 that Giorgio Bassani was born in Bologna. But it is at the town of Ferrare that its existence is dependant, city where it passed its childhood and its youth. In 1939, it leaves prize winner the Faculty of Arts of Bologna. But Bassani is of Jewish origin and, victim of the racial Lois of 1938, it is obliged to publish in 1940 its first book " Una città di pianura " under the pseudonym of Giacomo Marchi. Militant antifascist, it will be imprisoned in 1943. At the end of the war, it leaves for Rome where it will be tested with the cinema like Scénariste but also like Acteur. It at that time adheres to the Italian Socialist party (there will be elected city council man related PSI in 1962 and will remain close to this party until in 1966, date on which he adheres to the Republican party). It is as as from this time as its literary production will be most important, in the Fifties and Sixties. Several of its works accepted literary prizes besides and were adapted to the cinema. These works were gathered under the cycle of the novel of Ferrare " It Romanzo di Ferrara ". Giorgio Bassani was also professor of history to the national Académie of dramatic art, Journaliste and vice-president of the SPOKE (1964-1966).
