Gilles de Gouberville
Gilles Barb , sior of Gouberville , the Mesnil-with-Valley and Russy, born in 1521 and dead the March 7th 1578, is a memorialist French.
Norman gentleman, Gilles de Gouberville is the oldest son of Guillaume V Barb of Gouberville and Jeanne of Insane (girl of the lord of the Mesnil-with-Valley). In 1544, it inherits his/her father of the seigniories of Gouberville and the Mesnil-with-Valley, then of the seigniory of Russy of his/her uncle Jean Picot in 1560. Installed with the Mesnil-with-Valley, he was lieutenant of the National Forestry Commission (1543) for the Vicomté of Valognes following his father and farmer.
He is the author of a newspaper, whose years 1549 with 1562 were preserved and whose original manuscript was discovered in the chartrier of Saint-Pierre-Church. This work (republished, in 4 volumes, at the Editions of the fields , 1993-1994) is a testimony of the life of a country squire in North Cotentin at the 16th century.
It is buried in the church of the Mesnil-with-Valley.
Since 1986, association Comité Gilles de Gouberville diffuses the testimony of the Norman gentleman and annually publishes the Books goubervilliens since September 1997.
