Life

Gilles Cement , born on March 7th 1962, wire of the film critic Michel Cement, is laid off in History and English. After having created (in 1983) and having directed the Library of the Cinema in Paris, it becomes in 1991 Project manager at the Department of audio-visual of the National library of France in construction, then enters in 1994 to the Management of the foreign relations of the Forum of the Images. In 1999, it integrates the group Paradis Films/Océan Films Distribution to develop and produce Asian films ( In the Mood for Love and 2046 of Wong Kar-Wai, Millennium Mambo and Three Times of Hou Hsiao-Hsien). It also creates there the department of edition DVD, of which it with the load (45 published titles, and realization of first French HD DVD), as well as the whole of activity Internet (institutional site, film sites, newsletter, extranet professional, online shop). Gilles Ciment has carried out for more than 20 years a reflection on the cinema (in particular animation) and the cartoon, which led it to collaborate in many critical publications or histories (in particular Positif where it directs many file, 9 {{E}} Art of which he is member of the Editorial board, CinémAction, Books of the cartoon , etc) and to teach several years at the University (Paris-I Pantheon-Sorbonne and Paris-X Nanterre). He also directed several books, collaborated in about thirty works and ensured the police station of several exposures.

He also took part in many jurys of festivals, was member of the Selection committee of the Cannes festival during six years and Member of the Commission of the Price Quality for the short film with CNC.

He is finally President of the House of the Authors of Angouleme, which accommodates in residence draftsmen, illustrators, realizers of multi-media animation and artists, and founding member of the Oubapo (Sewing room of Potential Cartoon). For a scenario of feature-length film, he was prize winner of the Beaumarchais Foundation, then finalist of the Grand Prix of the Best Scenario writer in November 2004.

He was named Chevalier of Arts and Lettres with the title of the promotion of July 14th, 2006.

He is married and father of two children, Nemo and Ulysses.
