Gilded garlic

The garlic gilded , or garlic of Spain ( Allium moly ) is a herbaceous plant long-lived pertaining to the kind Allium (garlics or garlics) and to the family of the Alliacée S. It flowers in spring and is recognized in particular with the gilded color of its flowers.

Description

General and vegetative morphology

Plant set up small size (10 to 40 cm) with cylindrical stem, more or less ovoid Bulbe with brownish tunic and coriace. Each Tige is accompanied by one or two sheets lancéolées by 15 to 35 mm by width. The sheets are in theory shorter than the stems.

Floral morphology

Inflorescence in more or less semicircular Ombelle. Spathe opening in two short valves. Flowers hermaphrodites with six tepals (three similar sepals and three petals) of yellow color gilded, opening out of star. Six cheesecloths with yellow nets and anthères. Ovary supère with three carpelles.

Fruit and seeds

The fruit is a globulous capsule.

Ecology and habitat

Herbaceous plant Géophyte bulbous pushing in the rock and fresh places or the meadows of mowing (often on limestone), where it flowers from May to July.

Relatively rare, it meets especially in Spain and in the south of the France. It is also cultivated in the Jardin S.
