Gilbert of Porrée

Gilbert of Porrée , known also like Gilbertus Porretanus or Pictavieiisis (1070 in Poitiers - September 4th, 1154) is a logician and theologist scholastic.

Bishop of Poitiers.

He professed the Dialectique and the Théologie with Paris.

He put at the head the Realistic ones.

He saw several of his proposals condemned by the council held with Rheims in 1148, but retracted, and did not occupy itself any more until its death (1154) but of the care to inform its diocesans.

There is of him, inter alia works,

  • a treaty Of the six Principles, printed with several old editions of Aristote,
  • of the Comments, including one on the Apocalypse.
