Gilbert Fuchs , (born in 1871 with Graz, Austria - deceased in 1952 in Germany), was a artistic skater German which contributed for the German Empire.
It was born in Graz in Austria. After having finished the school, he moved in Munich in Germany. He started to involve himself with the club Munich EV. He involved himself besides on the first artificial ice inside a building, which had opened in 1892.
In 1896, it became the first world champion of figure skating of the history, with Saint-Pétersbourg. It gained this title again in 1906.
Its large rival was Ulrich Salchow, whose relations were rather tended. Salchow refused to make the championships of the world of 1906 in Munich, because it feared that it would not be noted in a way right. Therefore, Fuchs made in the same way for the Olympic Games of 1908, because he believed that the judges would support Salchow. Fuchs beat Salchow in the classification that only once; it was with the Championships of Europe of 1901.
