Gil Formosa

Gil Formosa enters the world of the Cartoon at 18 years, engaged by Rene Goscinny with the artistic studio Dargaud, as an assistant of Morris, and works for the merchandizing and the cartoons Lucky Luke.

In 1977, first publication in the newspaper “Pilot” of four short stories. At one time when the Heroic fantasy had not been essential yet in France, the first of the four albums of the series Légendes of the knight Cargal , scenario of Daniel Pecqueur, appears in 1982 in the collection “Fantastic Stories” at Dargaud, after prepublication in the “Pilot” newspaper. The last album of Cargal, the Master of Brumazar , will appear in 1989.

In parallel, Gil Formosa is impassioned for the advertizing illustration, the Loïs poster will be its first large publicity campaign, thus succeeding Giraud, then will come, in others, “cracked pastes Lustucru”, the green Martian whose Etienne Chatiliez will carry out the first commercial. He works for the cinema with the poster of the film Lady Hawk . In 1991, it designs the drawn decorations of the song recital of Jean-Jacques Goldman. For M6, it carries out Vidéo-clip S animated with the films Daddy DJ , collaborates in many projects of cartoons and creates the main characters of Totally Spies , the animated series currently diffused on TF1. Solicited by the editions Sun, it takes part in several “collectives” whose Uderzo crunched by his/her friends , draws two albums Tex Avery for Glénat. Marvel orders to him a cover of Conan , It also paints several covers of comics for the Semic editions which will publish, with Angouleme 2003, a portfolio on the diversity of its work.

January 2003, Gil Formosa signs its return to the cartoon with a new SF/Steampunk series at Albin Michel, on a scenario of Jean-Marc and Randy Lofficier, “Robur”:

volume 1: Of the Moon to the Earth , the January 26th 2003;
volume 2: 20.000 years under the seas , the January 14th 2004;
volume 3: Voyage in the center of the Moon , publication March 2005.

Gil worked on the creation of the decorations of the “secret base” of the feature-length film Double Zero of Gerard Pirès, left in June 2004.

November 2005, the editions Eyrolles publish Colorisation of the data base with Photoshop and requires of Gil to reveal the techniques which it uses for its cartoons.

In parallel, it illustrates several covers of novels of heroic fantasy and Science-fiction for the editions: Albin Michel, Gallimard, black River, Bélial, Imaginary Without Borders, Marvel, Mnémos, Nestiveqnen, Pinnacle Entertainment Group, Semic, TimeLine, Z-Man Ranges…

The new series of cartoons signed at Dargaud, Double left with Corbeyran with the scenario, appears the July 7th 2006.
