Its name in Asturien is Xixón .

Geography

Situation: The commune is located in the middle of the coast asturienne, between 0 and 513 meters above the sea level (peak San Martín), limited to the west by Carreño, the east by Villaviciosa and the south by Siero and Llanera.

The city is built on the coast, and it center is divided by the peninsula of Cimadevilla which separates the beach from San Lorenzo in the east of the marina, the beaches of Poniente and Arbeyal, the arsenal and the port of Musel, in the west.

Surface: 181,6 km ²

Access: Highway A-66 (Road of Plata), A-8 (Highway of Cantabric) and AS-1 (Highway Will mine). In the train, Gijón has daily connections with cities like Madrid, Santander, Corogne and Barcelona. There are also boats which arrive at the port of Musel.

Climate : Oceanic, summers heat with alternation of sunny and cloudy days. In winter the climate is soft, more or less rainy and windy, however sometimes the cold climate of north and Asturies is pointed out by snow with the sea level.
