Gignac in Occitan Ginhac is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called the " Gignacois".

  • Bridge of Gignac (XVIIIe century), conceived by Bertrand Garipuy, director of public works of the Province of Languedoc, undertaken by him in 1776, then by its Ducros nephew. The bridge was completed in 1810 by Billoin and Fontenay.

The hotel, which belonged to the family of Laurès, is currently the tourist bureau.

Personalities related to the commune

  • Claude-Daniel de Laurès (1701-1776), adviser at the Court of Auditors, assistances and finances of Montpellier.

  • Antoine de Laurès (1708-1779), writer, friend of Voltaire, translator of Phrasale of Lucain, and author in particular of the festival of Cythère , opera in an act created on November 19th, 1753 with the castle of Berny. He lived the castle of Gignac.
