Gifts of the Saint Spirit

In the Christian Religion, the gifts of the Saint Spirit are gifts of God to the believers.

They were in particular exposed by Bonaventure de Bagnorea, a catholic saint.

In Catholicism

In the Catholicism, the Holy Spirit is before a whole gift of God, gift of Amour (First epistle with the Corinthians). This gift includes all the others.

Many of the Holy Scriptures are the passages where the expression “spirit appears”. The Holy Spirit is thus qualified, in the Bible, in various manners. In the First Will, one speaks thus about Spirit of Yahvé, which also appears by the “arm”.

Traditionally, the Catholicisme took again the words of the prophet Isaïe who announced the Messiah (Is 11,2, to see chapter 11 of the book of Isaïe):

“a branch will leave the trunk of Isaïe, and of its roots will grow a kid. On him will rest the Spirit of Yahweh spirit of wisdom and intelligence, spirit of council and force, spirit of knowledge and fear of Yahweh. ”

The Vulgate of Saint Jerome took again these six gifts exposed by Isaïe and duplicated one of the gifts; there is thus the Piété.

Saint Bonaventure (13th century) wrote a book on the Holy Spirit.

The Catéchisme of the Catholic church indicates that the Holy Spirit is the interpreter of the Writing, and that it is necessary to be very attentive with different the direction from the Holy Scriptures. Thus, when Saint Paul mentions the speech in languages, he adds at once that one needs a gift of interpretation:

“This is why that which speaks in language must request to be able to interpret. Because if I request in language, my spirit is in prayer, but my intelligence does not withdraw any fruit from it. What to thus make? I will request with the spirit, but I will also request with the intelligence. I will say an anthem with the spirit, but I will also say it with the intelligence. ” (1Co 14,13-15)

In the Pentecôtisme

The Pentecôtisme attaches an particular importance to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, particularly with the Parler in languages ( 1 Corinthians 12: 4 to 7 ).

The pentecotism identifies nine gifts:

  • in a quasi systematic way of the “To speak in languages”, or Glossolalie, where the practitioner receives the gift to request aloud in a foreign language which he does not know, but control in the choice of practice;
One distinguishes here two forms, quasi systematic and more precise which calls with a gift of Interprétation
  • optionnellement, “ gift of interpretation of the Parler in languages ” consisting in interpreting, in the language of the audience, the “speech in language” describes above;
  • optionnellement, of the “ consistent gift of prophecy ” to speaking on behalf of God in various forms (revelations, thought,…) ;
  • optionnellement, of the “ gift of faith ” consisting in receiving an absolute conviction in connection with a situation or an event;
  • optionnellement, of the “ gift of words of wisdom ” consisting in giving words inspired bringing a solution or a divine lighting;
  • optionnellement, of the “ gift of words of knowledge ” consisting in receiving knowledge on events, situations,…;
  • optionnellement, of the “ gift of spiritual understanding ” consisting in seeing in the spiritual world (visually or in thought) Useful for démoniaque detection inter alia;
  • optionnellement, of the “ gift of cure ” consisting in bringing the cure to the people for whom one requests;
  • optionnellement, of the “ gift of consistent miracle ” to living miracles (creations, re-creations, temporality,…).
(9 on the whole).
