Gift Rosa
Keno Don Hugo Rosa (born the June 29th 1951 with Louisville, in the Kentucky) is an author of Comic S (American cartoons). It specialized in the adventures of Donald Duck and sound universe: Donaldville, while paying a very detailed attention with the character of Balthazar Picsou.
Biography
Parallel to a short career of civil engineer, it draws in the Années 1970 a certain number of adventures with characters of its invention. Its first Disney history was the Son of the sun ( Its off the sun ), putting in scene Picsou, which it carried out for the publisher Gladstone and which was published for the first time in July 1987. In front of the success met by this history, Don Rosa continued to invent other stories of Donald Duck and Picsou for Gladstone.
But in 1989, following the decision of Disney not to make more the boards original, Don Rosa leaves Gladstone and decides not to work more for Disney. In 1990, Don Rosa starts to work for the company Egmont which publishes the Disney stories with the Denmark, company with which he always currently collaborates; the stories drawn by Don Rosa are also popular in the others Scandinavian countries (with the turning of the years 1990, Don Rosa will also work a time with Oberon, the name of then of the Dutch editor, now VNU, like Disney the head office itself and later Hachette in France, thanks to the editors of Picsou Magazine).
Its most known work is the series the Youth of Picsou ( The life and times off Scrooge McDuck ) which recalls the adventures that Picsou lived day when it gained its famous penny fetish at the day when it became the richest duck of the world. This series was worth besides a “to him Will Eisner Award” ( best continuing series ) in 1995 which is the most prestigious reward for an author of comics. In 1997, it will receive second “Will Eisner Award” ( best artist/writer, humor ).
Its drawing is characterized by an expansion of details. That thus makes it possible to anchor the intrigue in the real history, but also to surround the principal action of small gags, animals, etc For example: mice with the very human behavior or the character of Mickey Mouse hidden or abused. To the great displeasure of its editor states-unien, Don Rosa manages thanks to its drawing to introduce the homage to Carl Barks describes ( D.U.C.K below. ).
The other force of Gift Rosa lies in its capacity to anchor its stories in a real historical context and to being able to exploit the emotions of the reader. Thus crosses one in his stories of the historical characters like Theodore Roosevelt, Geronimo, the Frères Dalton and well of others still. Through its stories, Don Rosa makes pass from the messages such as the respect of nature.
Because of its talent and of its knowledge of the universe of Donald Duck, Don Rosa seems the worthy successor of Carl Barks, the “father” of Balthazar Picsou. Don Rosa thus creates stories which refer to the stories of Barks. Nevertheless, it puts forward certain topics on the family love which binds Picsou, Donald and Riri, Fifi and Loulou. Don Rosa thus paints a miserly feeling but silver billionaire, not; and an uncle in costume of concerned sailor of his nephews, more still than in the stories of Barks.
For proof of its admiration and its respect towards Barks, Don Rosa systematically hides in the first image of its stories the acronym D.U.C.K. which means Dedicated to Unca Carl from Keno .
However, Don Rosa is distinguished from Barks while seeking to tell the origins of the characters, from Donaldville and the places like the plan of the safe of Picsou, where Barks preferred to imply and suggest. The characters are also more complex at Don Rosa: Picsou doubts itself, is carried easily, Donald is sometimes courageous because it overflows of a paternal love for its nephews. Don Rosa even manages to tell sad stories in cartoons intended for youth: the advertisement of died of his/her mother starts final “the Emperor of Klondike” and Picsou is shown several times collecting itself on the tomb of his/her mother and her father which is drawn died at the end of the “Milliardaire of the lost moors”. Remain nevertheless that the Danish editor Egmont refuses that Don Rosa works on Della Duck, the mother of Riri, Fifi and Loulou.
