Don Bluth is a draftsman, born the September 13rd 1937 with El Paso (Texas). It is especially known for its cartoon films which gained a great success.

Biography

Second child of a family which counts seven of them, it grows in a medium very marked by Article It would be one of the direct descendants of Pocahontas. At 6 years, he is discovered a vocation of draftsman by seeing White-Snow and the 7 dwarves .

During three years, they produced local talents, Don ensuring the accompaniment the piano. However, it quickly decides to turn over to its first loves: after having obtained its diploma of English literature, it launches out again in animation.

In 1968, it is engaged at the department “layout” of the studios of television of Los Angeles, of which he quickly becomes director. Inspired by traditional Disney, Bluth joins two other Disney organizers, Gary Goldman and John Pomeroy. It decide to call their group Don Bluth Productions . Since 1973, Gift, Gary and John joined together the material to be able to write and direct their first cartoon. After two or three false starts, turning begins in 1975 in the garage from Bluth, occupying the weekends and the nights of the three men. They want ressusciter the spirit of traditional Disney which they do not find any more with the Disney Studios. After approximately five years of efforts, it is in 1979 that the trio completes its first production. The fruit of their work, Banjo, The Woodpile Cat receives many prices of which the Outstanding commendation award of the National Advisory Board.

This success attracts the investors who propose to the three men to finance their first feature film. They thus resign of the Disney studios and choose to adapt the novel of Robert C.O' Brien, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats off Nimh : in 1982, Brisby and the secrecy of NIMH leave on the screens. However, the success of Brisby is measured and the sector of animation does not go as well as possible: without projects, Don Bluth Productions is at the edge of the bankruptcy.

In 1983, Bluth, Goldman and Pomeroy found Bluth Group and create video games with success like celebrates it Dragon' S Lair or Space Ace , but the sector of the video game in crisis does not enable them to carry out a continuation.

This dark period however allowed Don of recontrer Morris Sullivan, an investor who believes in the future of the traditional cartoon and traditional animation. They found together the Sullivan Bluth Studios and negotiate with Steven Spielberg the operational startup of a new feature film: Fievel and the New World obtains a great success in rooms as in video.

In 1986, Bluth negotiates with the Irish government and transfers its studio in Ireland, where it created largest and the most modern complex of animation in Europe.

The success of the productions of Gift Bluth is not contradicted: the Small Dinosaur and the valley of the wonders , produced by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, Charlie , Rock'n'roll-O-Rico , Poucelina and the magic Imp . He collaborated for the near total of these films with his colleague of always, Gary Goldman.
