Giez is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Savoie and the area the Rhone-Alps. The commune belongs to the Communauté of communes of the Country of Faverges. The inhabitants are the Gicanes and the Gicans , or in patois the Forgalus .

The commune is located at 6 km in the South of the Lac of Annecy, on the buttresses of Sarve, where the Water-Dead runs out.

History

The history of the commune is related to the family of very old nobility of the Chevron the Villette, which has the Château of Gye since 1204.

Etymology

Name inherited a field of Gallo-Roman origin Gaiacum . Gy, then Gyé.
