Political training

The beginning of its political career occurs within the Face from youth, a formation of Extreme-right-hand side of which he becomes president in 1977.

Political career

In 1987, it succeeds Giorgio Almirante as national secretary of the Italian Social movement Movimento Sociale Italiano - Destra Nazionale , left born from nostalgia the Fascisme, and remains about it the secretary until 1990 (date on which it is supplanted by Pino Rauti) and again as from July 1991.

It is the time when he still believes in a social heritage of Fascism and defends the memory of Mussolini. Thus in January 1990, he declares Nobody can ask us to abjure our fascistic matrix then affirms that Mussolini was more the great man of State of the XXe century. And if he lived today, he would guarantee the freedom of the Italians . In 1992, it specifies that … That which was overcome by the weapons but not by the history is intended to taste with the soft savor of revenge… After almost a half-century, Fascism is ideally alive. , and in June 1994: Mussolini was more the great man of State of the century… There are phases in which freedom is not among the preeminent values. .

In 1993, Fini is candidate with the municipal election of Rome and created the surprise by supplanting all the traditional right-wing candidates. If it gathers on its only name 46% of the voters, it is however beaten by Francesco Rutelli. Nevertheless, its score marks the beginning of its political ascendance. Conscious of having lost because of the fascistic label whose the MSI was asserted, it décidr to politically center the Italian old party following the example the EC what had done the Italian Communist party. Initially, he challenges the terms of fascists or neofascists for that of post-fascist.

Its entry with the Italian government in 1994 in the coalition of Silvio Berlusconi still causes reserves, in particular abroad where ministers refuse to discuss with their Italian counterparts members of the MSI. Finished then decides to organize a congress of recasting then intended to adopt a new political orientation for a MSI, whose name is from now on in deferment.

The founder of National alliance

The recasting of the MSI takes place to the congress of Fiuggi organized of the 25 with the January 29th 1995. The political restoration undertaken is symbolized by the name change of the party in a National alliance chaired by Gianfranco Fini. By centring its party, it balances its fascistic past. The post-Fascism which he asserts consists in giving up any reference to the traditional Fascism, considered henceforth only as one historical reference, and making National alliance, a new right party moderate.

The hardest wing of the ex-MSI does not forgive him this centring and gives up the movement to gather in other formations.

However the more open remarks of Mr. Fini continued to shake time with another its party whose members did not have all completion forgotten their old current of thoughts. The irreducible last to start with Alessandra Mussolini (grand-daughter of Benito Mussolini) ended up entering in dissidence and leaving the party in 2003, in particular after the remarks of Gianfranco Fini declaring in Israel that Fascism was the absolute evil XXe century and that the reign of Mussolini was a ashamed chapter of the History of our people (Italian)
