Gian Luigi Fieschi (born v. 1522 - died the January 2nd 1547 with Genoa) is noble a génois 16th century, descendant of one of the more big families of Ligurie, the family of the Fieschi. Among its ancestors there were 2 Pape S (Innocent IV and Adrien V), of the cardinals, a king of Sicily, three saints, and many admirals and generals of Genoa.
Sinibaldo Fieschi, his/her father, was a friend close to Andrea Doria, and rendered many services to the republic génoise. With its death in 1532, Giovanni was at the nine years age to the head of the family and administrator of the family grounds. It Maria with Eleonora Cybo, marchioness of Massed, in 1540. It was a woman of a great beauty and a great influence. There be many reasons which involved the hatred of the family Doria.
He conspired against Andrea Doria, which exerted the supreme power with Genoa, and against Gianettino Doria, nephew of Andrea, which was to succeed to him. He was already Master of the city, and had made massacre Gianettino, when he fell to the sea, the January 2nd 1547, while passing on a board and drowned.
After its disappearance, the conspiracy was choked soon and its cruelly punished accomplices.
The history of this conspiracy was written in Italian by Agostino Mascardi, 1629, and in French by the cardinal of Retz.
Friedrich Schiller put on the scene the Conjuration of Fieschi ( Die Verschwörung of Fiesco zu Genua ).
