Gian Giorgio Trissino

Gian Giorgio Trissino known as Trissin (born the July 8th 1478 with Vicence; in Venezia - died the December 8th 1550 with Rome) was a writer and Italian poet of the Renaissance.

Biography

Gian Giorgio Trissino was charged by Leon X with various negotiations to Venice, with the Denmark, in Germany.

He also enjoys the favor of Clément VII, but had in his old age of low registers and ruinous lawsuit to be supported, in particular against a son whom he had had of a first bed.

Works

The principal works of Gian Giorgio Trissino are
  • delivered Italy of Goths by Bélisaire , poem epic
  • the comedy of Mnechmes ,
  • the tragedy of Sophonisbe (1515),
  • in addition to sonnets and canzones .

Its complete Œuvres was published in Vérone, 1729, 2 volumes small in-fol.

Trissin is well-known only as author of the first regular tragedy and having been first to be used the versi sciolti or towards nonrhymes. Its Sophonisbe was several times translated into French and imitated by Marot, Corneille, Voltaire and Alfieri.
