Gian Francesco Buonamico

Jean-François Buonamico , of his Italian name Gian Francesco Buonamico , (1639 - 1680), historian, naturalist and literary man.

He is doctor of the Ordre of Malta, and going down from the Famille Bonamy of Nantes.

He carries out the first list of the plants of the island of Malta, De Plantis quae in Melita and Gaulo observantur in 1670. It enumerates 243 native and cultivated plants, but will never be published. There exist two handwritten copies (one with additional notes, and Maltese names) at the National library of Malta, and one with the Natural History Museum of London.
