Gian-Battista Pinin Farina

Battista known as " Pinin" Farina , become since 1961 Battista Pininfarina , was born in Turin the November 2nd, 1893 and deceased the April 3rd, 1966 with Lausanne. He is the founder of the Pininfarina SpA, celebrates company of body and design, founded in 1930. The name " Pinin Farina" became " Pininfarina" in 1961 thanks to a decree of Giovanni Gronchi, then President of the Italian Republic.

He was the son of a Piedmontese farmer who had settled in the Piedmontese capital to find work there, and was the last but one of a phratry of eleven children. Its original family name was Farina, " Pinin" was its nickname, which means " petit" into Piedmontese, and that it kept like commercial name. His/her father finds work in 1899, in the new company the Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino founded by some Giovanni Agnelli. Autodidact, the Battista young person was formed as an apprentice in the garage of his brother Giovanni Farina (whose son Giuseppe will become the first world champion of F1) attended by characters like Vincenzo Lancia or Giovanni Agnelli.

In 1912, it was 19 years old, when Giovanni Agnelli, allured by her knowledge, the industrialist makes it come to Turin in order to create the body of the FIAT Torpedo which will be its first truth creation. In 1918, it leaves to the the United States in order to better include/understand made technological advances on other side of the ocean, and spends one month and half to discovered factories Ford de Détroit, American capital of the car. Henry Ford, interested by important knowledge of Battista, will propose to him to engage it.

In 1922, as a pilot, it gains the Aoste race - San Bernardino at the wheel of Itala, but it works until in 1930 for FIAT.

In 1930, it creates its own company Carrozeria Pinin Farina to the 107 Corso Trapani with Turin, and as of the first business year it produces 42 body with 90 people. It invests quickly in a blower and a research center. Thanks to its many contacts which it maintains since its childhood, it launches out in the automobile design and will create many models until the second world war. In 1936, it presents the news Lancia Aprilia, crossed very aerodynamic intended for the race and which will have a very great success. In 1939, right before the war, its company was already well developed and produces with 500 workmen a car per day. During the war, the company works for civil industry but is obliged to also work for the Italian army, requisitioned to build carts, sledges and boats out of wooden.

In 1947, after the success of Cisitalia 202 realized on the basis of FIAT 100, it will collaborate with american companies, such as Nash, Dodge and General Motors.

His/her son Sergio Pininfarina took his succession.
