Giambologna
Giambologna , in Italy Giovanni Bologna, born Jean of Bologna or Jehan of Boulogne is a Sculpteur mannerist of Flemish origin born with Douai in 1529 and died with Florence in 1608.
Biography
He studies his art with Antwerp with the architect and sculptor Jacques Of Brœucq before leaving for Rome 1555 to 1557.
He settles thereafter with Florence under the protection of François I {{er}} of Médicis.
Works
In Florence, it takes part in the contest for the monumental fountain of the Piazza della Signoria but one prefers to him Bartolomeo Ammannati for the Fontaine of Neptune which is still set up there.He is however on this same place the famous author of the equestrian statue of Cosme I {{er}} of Médicis, as well as statues of the removal of Sabines and of Hercules fighting with the Centaur located under the Loggia dei Lanzi .
With the Garden of Boboli, he is the author of the Venus della Groticella .
With Paris, the August 23rd 1614, four years after the assassination of Henri IV, the equestrian statue of the king, ordered from Jean of Boulogne by the queen Marie de Médicis is inaugurated on the quay level of the island of the City, between the two abutments of the New Pont. This statue was destroyed during the revolution and will be replaced only in 1818, thanks to a subscription launched by Louis XVIII, according to the model of François Frederic Lemot. This new statue was molten by Pierre Tasca with the bronze of the effigy of Desaix.
