Gia Marie Carangi

Gia Marie Carangi (January 29th 1960, Philadelphia, Pa - November 18th 1986, Philadelphia, Pa) was a mannequin American of the end of the year 1970 with the beginning of the year 1980. Carangi, which was of origin Welsh Italian, and Irish, was largely regarded as the first " Top model ". Cindy Crawford, which also appeared with the one of many contemporary magazines of mode with Gia, was later known under the nickname of " Gia" baby; , from its resemblance to it. Rise

Carangi, which was known in the world of the mode by its first name, knew a difficult childhood. His/her parents often fought, it missed attention.

Carangi went from Philadelphia to New York at the age of 17ans, and was become prominent. It was the mannequin preferred of many eminent Fashion photographers, like Francesco Scavullo, Arthur Elgort, Richard Avedon, like Chris von Wangenheim, and it posed for photographs in many States. Its Sexual orientation was disputed: while some think that it was completely Lesbienne, others think rather than it knew many relations with men and regard it as Bisexuelle. With the end of the year 1978, Carangi was already a well-known mannequin.

Carangi one was accustomed of the Studio 54 and the Mudd Club. It used cocaine regularly only in the clubs, but later it started to develop a Addiction with heroin.

In October 1978, Carangi posed for its first great photo catch with the fashion photographer Chris von Wangenheim. This one made it pose naked behind an iron netting, with Sandy Linter as assistant make-up girl. Carangi enticha immediately with Linter and started to continue it, although their relation never became stable.
