Ghyvelde

Ghyvelde (in Dutch: Gijvelde ) is a common of France, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Its inhabitants is called the ghyveldois.

Geography

Built in the North of Moëres (of the Flemish De Moeren: the Marsh), at the edge of the channel connecting Furnes in Belgium, (12km) with Dunkirk (14 km). The border with Belgium materializes the limit Is city.

History

Ghyvelde is quoted in a cartulaire count de Flandre Baudouin V, gone back to 1067. Devastated on several occasions, Ghyvelde with receipt the Military Cross in 1949
