Ghulam Ishaq Khan
Ghulam Ishaq Khan , known under the abbreviation GIK , (in Urdu/Pachtoun: غلاماسحاقخان ) (born the January 20th 1915, with Ismailkhel, in the District of Bannu, in the part of the India which was going to become the Pakistan after independence - died the October 27th 2006 with Peshawar, Pakistan) was a Pakistani politician , which was Minister for Finance of 1977 with 1985, president of the Senate of 1985 with 1988, then president of Pakistan of 1988 with 1993.
Biography
Ghulam Ishaq Khan was born the January 20th 1915 with Ismailkhel, in the District of Bannu, located in the province of the north-western border of Pakistan, in a family of the Ethnie Pachtoune. It followed studies of Chimie, and until independence, devoted itself to irrigation work in the west of Pakistan.After independence, Khan joined the ministry for Finances, in which it occupied various stations, before becoming Minister for Finance.
At the time of the elections of 1985, it obtained a seat with the Senate, and was then elected president of the Pakistani Senate. Immediately after the death of the general Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq in 1988, Khan became, in accordance with the Pakistani Constitution, chair by interim (August 17th 1988). He was then formally elected at this station in December of the same year. He preserved this function until the June 18th 1993.
The October 27th 2006, the old Pakistani president dies of one pneumonia at the 91 years age.
