Ghetto of Budapest

The ghetto of Budapest is a Ghetto in which the Juifs Hungarian of Budapest were obliged to live during the Second world war.

This ghetto contained several streets of the old Jewish district of the city, around large the Synagog of the street Dohány, and was surrounded by high ramparts kept to prevent any smuggling towards the ghetto or any escape from people. The occupation Nazi E of Budapest started in March 1944 and the ghetto was maintained less than three months between November and the release of the city in January 1945.

As all the ghettos establish by the Nazis in Europe, the zone was completely cut rest of the world: the provisioning of the city was prohibited, waste and other refuse was not evacuated and the dwellings were over-populated, supporting the propagation of diseases like the Typhoïde.

More half of the Jews parked in this ghetto in 1944 were sent towards Concentration camps, as from the moment when the ghetto was established. Between the occupation of the city and her release, the Jewish population of Budapest was reduced from 200.000 to 70.000 hearts, the majority of the survivors having been able to profit from the diplomatic protection of politicians. The large majority of the survivors was released by the Red Army .
