Ghâts Eastern

The Eastern ghâts are a discontinuous chain of the eroded mountains, segmented by the course of the four principal rivers of southernmost India, the Godâvarî, the Mahânadî, the Krishnâ, and the Kâverî which take their source in the Western Ghâts. The tops there are less low than in the chain of the Western ghâts with an average altitude of 700 m hardly, but however culminate to 1300 m in Orissa. They are mainly made up of black basalts there.

The chain is held Western Bengal in north until the Tamil Nadu in the south, while crossing Orissa and the Andhra Pradesh, parallel to the Bay of Bengal. The area enjoys a fertile ground, it is not however as favourable with the hydroelectric production as the area of the Western ghâts.
