Geysers del Tatio
Geysers del Tatio with the Chile.
These Geyser S is on the Andes cordillera on the Altiplano to 4.200 m of altitude in the Región de Antofagasta. Located at 90 km in the north of San Pedro de Atacama.
With nearly 80 active geysers, El Tatio is the greatest site of the southern hemisphere and the third by its size after that of the park of the Yellowstone in the USA and that of Dolina Giezerov in Russia.
Malgré the big number of geysers, those are not very high. The highest eruption reaching the 6 meters. The average height of the eruptions reaches the 75 centimères (Glennon and Pfaff, 2003).
This site is visited at dawn, when the difference in temperature (it can freeze until - 20°C) allows to admire the formation of the vapor chimneys.
