Gettysburg

Gettysburg is a city of the state of Pennsylvania, the United States. It is the chief town of the county of Adams. In 2000, it counts 7.490 inhabitants.

History

The town of Gettysburg was founded in 1786.

Since 1987, the city has a sister, designated by association Sister Cities International: León, in Nicaragua

During the American Civil War, the city was, of 1st at July 3rd 1863, the seat of the Bataille of Gettysburg.

In November 1863, Abraham Lincoln made the Gettysburg Address there, celebrates speech which he made with the Soldier' S National Cemetery.

During the First World War Gettysburg sheltered a camp of drive for the tanks, Camp Colt. Its young commander was Dwight David Eisenhower. At the end of its presidency, it was withdrawn in a farm in the neighborhoods.

Currently, Gettysburg is the town of Stéphanie Deckert, an artist of Pennsylvania.
