Germinal Pierre Dandelin
Germinal Pierre Dandelin (April 12th 1794 with the Le Bourget, France - February 15th 1847 with Brussels) was a Belgian Mathématicien . He is especially known for his work in Géométrie.
His/her father is a French administrator, his mother is a Belgian originating in the Hainaut. They move for Belgium whereas he is still child and studies there with the College of Ghent, where he quickly points out himself by his excellence. He gains, in August 1813, the first price of special mathematics and, in November of the same year, between with the polytechnic school of Paris.
Its studies are stopped by the countryside of France, during which it joint with the French Army and obtains the title of colonel. After the defeat of Napoleon to Waterloo.
He works then with the ministry for the interior under the orders of Lazare Carnot. By afterwards, he becomes citizen of the Netherlands, then a Professor in mining Génie in Belgium, as well as a member of the Belgian army.
The work of Dandelin concerns on the Géométrie and mainly the Conique S, for which it shows several results, in particular that one nowadays calls the Théorème of Dandelin, that it proves in 1822. Its name is associated with the Sphère of Dandelin, with the Méthode of Dandelin-Gräffe which is used for the solution of algebraic equations. It also published on the stereographic Projection, the Algèbre and the Theory of probability.
