German ultimatum against Belgium (August 2nd, 1914)
Following the general mobilization in France and Germany, pretexting that in spite of its promise (it) to respect the neutrality of Belgium, France apprète to be gone towards the Meuse, while passing by Givet and Namur, Germany leaves 7 hours in Belgium so that it accepts the unrestricted passage of its troops.
The August 3rd, Belgium answers that if France missed with its promise, it would oppose to the invader most vigorous resistance . With 18:45, the baron de Schoen, ambassador of Germany in France, declare the war in France. In Brussels, the people acclaim the French and sing the Marseillaise.
The August 4th Albert {{Ier}} is ovationné, Germany declares the war and invades Belgium. While the small strong Belgian army of 200.000 men tries to resist, with Visé, eleven civilians are carried out for the example. Liege is besieged.
