German Club of science fiction

The German Club of science fiction (original name: Science Fiction Club Deutschland , SFCD) is a German association which brings together amateurs of science fiction, literature, cinema and media electronic.

Objective of association

The German Club of science fiction proposes to throw a critical glance on the Science-fiction and the fantastic one in the literature and the media. Its objective is to promote sciences which are at the origin of the science fiction and to diffuse a message of tolerance and peace. The German Club of science fiction tied close contacts with other foreign associations which pursue the same goals.

History

The German Club of science fiction was founded the August 4th 1955 with Francfort-sur-le-Main by the German authors of science fiction Walter Ernsting (alias Clark Darlton) and Raymond Zinke Gallun, by the editor Walter Spiegl and Julian Parr. The seat of the Club is located at Hanover. Among the first members of the Club, one also counts celebrates it American amateur of science fiction Forrest J. Ackerman.

Whereas at its beginnings, the actions of the amateurs of science fiction were not made that in the framework of the Club, association oue today a federator role, with many contacts abroad and various local associations and regional.

The German Club of science fiction account today more than 450 members at the federal level (figures of September 2004), to which some members are added to the the United States, with the Netherlands, in Great Britain, Sweden, with the Canada and in Australia. The German Club of science fiction is thus association independent of the oldest science fiction of Germany in this field, compared to the other German clubs dedicated to universes of novels, films or televised series such as for example Perry Rhodan, Star Wars or Star Trek.

Activities

Publications

The principal activity of the Club is the publication. The Andromeda Nachrichten ( New of Andromède ) appear at quarterly intervals and propose the vastest amount of information on the science fiction of all the German territory. The various editions of the “Magazine of Andromède science fiction” are proposed by various draftings. In the past, the magazine published anthologies on the Réunification or the Alchimie in the past and the future, of the bibliographies and the reports on great congresses of science fiction or of course the largest amateur German of SF: Herbert Häusler. The magazine appeared these last years with an annual rhythm or bi-annual. The “Story center” appears once per annum and proposes news of still unknown German authors. The Club also buys books to offer them to some its members.

Price

The German Club of sicence-fiction decrees each year the prestigious German Prix of science fiction to the best novel and the best news of the kind published in German language during the previous year. In each category, the price is equipped with 1000, - €, which makes of it a flat price in its kind in Germany.

Since the year 2003 is decreed the Prix Curt-Siodmak with the best film productions or televisual of the previous year. The prizes winner are announced each year at the time of the congress of the Club which is held each time in a different place on the German territory.

Additional activities

The German Club of science fiction also supports the activities of its members who engage at the local or regional level in associations of fans or with the international level. It is also necessary to announce the record library of the Club which is a kind of memory Acoustique of radiophonic parts recorded by members or recordings of short speeches at the time of German or international congresses.
