Germaine Acremant
German Acremant , French novelist born the June 13rd 1889 with Saint-Omer, deceased in 1986 with Neuilly-sur-Seine.
Third child and only girl of Edouard Foal, doctor with Saint-Omer (Pas-de-Calais) where it was born in 1889, Germaine Acremant finishes in Scotland its studies started in its birthplace and Marie. It is during the war of 1914-1918, during which his/her brother Pierre (1887-1914) will disappear, who the idea to write comes to this young woman sporting and equipped with a pretty talent of painter in watercolours. Its first attempt in literature is worth notoriety to him: the Company of the Men of letters crowns " These Ladies with the hats verts" (1922), satire of the provincial life, from which it draws with her husband, Albert Acremant, a comedy with success. Republished many times (more than 1,5 million specimens, translated into 25 languages, carried with the cinema by the realizer Maurice Bell in 1937), this novel is followed of many others (about thirty approximately), whose majority occur in North from France, of Saint-Omer with Etaples, the hills of Artois to the beaches of Touquet, while passing by Boulogne-sur-Mer and mythical cities. Let us quote among the principal ones: " Merry! We marry! " which obtained the National Price of Literature in 1927, " The road mouvante" (Price Mortyon 1940), " Back-saison" (1942), etc Several of them also were the subject of an adaptation for the theater, always in collaboration with Albert Acremant who also carried out the illustrations of several of his novels. It also published a collection of poetry: " Worms of Couleur" , Grasset Editions, 1910. In 1970, it published " Gray hats… hats verts" , the continuation of " These ladies with the hats verts" . Majority of the works of Germaine Acremant one published at Plon.
